THE NAME

A Minor Arcana card of the standard tarot deck, the Page of Wands shows a young man alone in the desert, strong and confident, announcing his dreams and desires to the world.

The Page of Wands Theatre Company is purely an artistic expression of this card and what it represents. We hope to attract friendly and adventurous people to our company, who share the same qualities and ambitions as the Page.

The suit of Wands corresponds to the element of fire and the zodiac signs of Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. It represents passion, ambition, perception, intuition, imagination, new beginnings and a burning desire to conceptualise and create. It is also associated with career and successful business ventures.

Wise for his years, the Page represents youth, confidence, change, inovation, expression, new perspectives, discovery, adaptation, enthusiasm and hard work. He is associated in particular with the creative vocations of musicians, artists, actors, inventors and teachers.

THE COMPANY

Page of Wands Theatre Company was formed in 2006 by Karla Conway and Nick Stannard to focus specifically on the art of musical theatre.

As it's Artistic Director, Karla intends to bring a wide variety of musical productions to the City of Perth with new and innovative concepts. Karla has a Bachelor of Arts (Drama), a Masters of Teaching from Notre Dame and many years experience in theatre, both performing and directing. She has studied directing at the University of Missouri under Carnegie Scholar, Dr Suzanne Burgoyne and recently directed the West Australian premiere of The Producers, which ran in May 2007.

Nick currently works in the financial planning industry and, quite frankly, doesn't know that much about theatre. His wide ranging Technical Manager responsibilities include 'building stuff', 'painting stuff', getting coffee and dealing with prima donna actors and their never ending fruit basket requests. Nick's theatre highlight comes from Karla's last production where he secretly put the cast on decaffeinated coffee during rehearsals and then switched them to triple espresso on opening night, just to "see what would happen."

All jokes aside, the Page of Wands Theatre Company is passionately dedicated to the art of musical theatre and we hope you enjoy our productions as much as we enjoy creating them.
